Re-activation of Chrome

Q. Do you have an easy way of re-activating a hard chrome plated surface? This would be so that more hard chrome can be added.

A. Solvent clean or Degrease (as required), warm up in heated chrome bath with for 2-10 minutes with current off, calculate warm up time based on part temperature, size and girth. Reverse etch in the chrome bath for 30 seconds to 1 minute at approximately 5 - 6 volts DC. Then switch to forward polarity and step the DC voltage up incrementally from 2.0- volts to full amps, approximately .2 of a volt per step, at 15 second intervals until desired plating range is reached. Then calculate thickness required and set re-plating time.

Good luck.
