Definition:

This operation involves the formation of a circuit pattern of conductive metal (usually copper) on nonconductive board materials such as plastic or glass. There are five basic steps involved in the manufacturing of printed circuit boards: cleaning and surface preparation, catalyst and electroless plating, pattern printing and masking, electroplating, and etching.
