Sources for Standards

American Electroplaters and Surface Finishers Society (AESF). The AESF is presently in negotiations with standards organizations. They plan to have available a range of on-line standards for purchase by the end of 1996.
American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM). Use the Search function to perform keyword searches. Read abstracts and order by completing on-line form, printing out form and faxing to ASTM. Paper copy is mailed to customer. Cost per standard varies, most are around $15 to $20 for non-ASTM members.
American National Standards Institute (ANSI). Search capability. Presently you can order standards and other publications by phone, fax, or mail. ANSI is planning to sell on-line publications in the future.
American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). This site is relatively undeveloped at this time.
Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE). Publications for sale, but no standards.
International Organization for Standardization (ISO). From the home page click on ISO Catalogue, then chose International Standards to view a list of ICS fields. Keyword search capability. Pricing and purchasing standards is complicated. Easiest method is to purchase through ANSI (http://www.ansi.org/catalog.html)
Electronic Industries Association (EIA). Over 1000 standards publications descriptions can be searched (WAIS). Limited information results. No full text. Must call for pricing and purchasing.
American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA). Very slow site. No database search capability. Order by phone.
International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). Very limited site. No search capability. Phone and fax orders only.
International Society for Measurement and Control (ISA). Click on Standards from the homepage. Search by keyword. Publications can be ordered by credit card on-line using an electronic form.
Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). From homepage, click on Products and then Standards. There is no search capability, however, titles of standards are alphabetically listed and can be found relatively easy. No full text on-line. Customers must place orders by printing out an order form and faxing it to SAE. Prices are typically $25 to $60.
