Carryover on a Lamella Claifier using Ferrous, Nalcolyte & Sedi Floc

Q. I am trying to get our waste treatment facility under control, we are currently removing copper and nickel from our waste water discharge. Levels in our untreated water range from .9 to 2.00ppm copper and .6 to 1.00ppm nickel. We have a metering pump for each of the following: our ferrous/nalcolyte mixture and our sedifloc/water mixture. Normally our treated effluent leaving the lamella is 0.15ppm nickel and 0.05ppm copper. There are occasions when the floc rises on the discharge side of the lamella and discolors the treated water going to the final pH adjust tanks.

Any suggestions on how to keep the floc from rising to the top of the tank on the discharge side?

A. I typically add a sand filter, polishing filter at the end of the clarifier for that very reason.
